Deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak said the EEC will help increase Thailand’s competitiveness and attract foreign investments into the country.
 Speaking at the EEC forum hosted by Manager Group yesterday, Somkid said the Eastern Economic Corridor is the project being pushed by the government to attract foreign investments into the country, especially in the growth industries, such as digital, Internet, and the development of new innovations. EEC will also be linked to the development of other economic sectors, including agriculture and tourism, which will raise GDP  growth of country. 
“Without EEC, Thailand will lose its competitiveness as there are many countries in Asean that will become Thailand’s competitors, such as Vietnam. EEC will help raise our competitiveness to another level with a new manufacturing base and attract foreign investors to Thailand rather than other countries,” he said. Somkid said that the world’s economy this year is expected to stage a strong recovery.
