PM concerned over water level in Lop Buri dam

PRIME MINISTER General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday visited the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam in Lop Buri's Pattana Nikhom district and said the water level there was alarmingly low but the situation had started to improve, with water pouring into the dam thanks to

Prayut was told that the Pa Sak dam still held 40.18 million cubic metres, or only 4 per cent of capacity. It received water at 25 cubic metres per second or 2.17 million cubic metres per day but released about 1 million cubic metres of water per day.

Prayut, accompanied by Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda and Natural Resources and Environment Minister Dapong Ratanasuwan, also inspected the dam’s “monkey cheek” water-retention area around the dam, a Royal project to increase water-storage capacity by 46 million cubic metres.
As part of his official visit to Nakhon Nayok, Prayut observed the water level at Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam in that province’s Muang district before proceeding to Pa Sak Jolasid Dam. Prayut said his Lop Buri visit was arranged because of his concerns for the drought-hit residents and to witness the real water situation. He also urged all provinces to maintain a balance between releasing water to communities and storing water for use during the dry season.
Prayut also said the government had been implementing measures to aid flood victims in both Thailand and Myanmar. Pointing out that that state agencies were prepared to tackle flash floods and landslides in all areas, he said the government had earlier pledged Bt5 million to flood-stricken Myanmar.
