A campaign for united perseverance from Asian friends

Leading Asian media and organisations have sent messages of support via The Nation to the Thai people to stay strong and united amid adversity - in a show of solidarity following the August 17 bombing at Ratchaprasong intersection. The Nation is passing o

The bomb attack at the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok was shocking. The site has been very popular with Chinese tourists, four of who were among the dead in the atrocity. Saddened but undeterred, we stand together with our Thai friends and condemn the terrorist act. “Let us not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless when facing them.” We have confidence that this Nation of Smiles will stand firm, and embrace the future with broader smiles.

It warms the heart to see Thailand join hands at a very difficult time with people using the hashtag #StrongerTogether. This time, we see most Thais opting to unite rather than be led further apart by a sad event. The force of good is always more potent and it becomes stronger when people come together to resist forces that divide communities. We pray for Thailand to rise from this episode and come out even stronger as a people.

I think panicking, instability and devastation were what terrorists wanted to create - among not only the Thai people - but also people from other countries. So stay strong, united and vigilant as a community.

Following last Monday’s tragic bombing incident, our thoughts are with the city of Bangkok, peace-loving Thais and most especially to the families directly affected by the tragedy.
While this tragic event may impact delegate numbers at the coming 14th AFCSR, with vigilance we remain committed to hosting a meaningful conference in Bangkok on September 8-9, and creating a positive impact in Thailand and beyond.
Indeed, this is a stark reminder of some of the critical challenges our world faces and reinforces the need for new, bold and imaginative approaches towards meeting the world’s biggest challenges.
More than ever, we need to work together towards creating a better world.
