Asean learned of North Korea's rocket launch on Feb 7 and follows the situation closely.
"[Asean] shares the common concerns of the international community over recent developments in the region," Asean said in a statement sent to thejakartapost.com recently.
Aalso restated its support for the early resumption of the Six Party Talks designed to dismantle nuclear weapons in North Korea through peaceful means.
"Asean reiterates the importance of dialogue and constructive engagement for maintaining peace and security in the Korean Peninsula," the statement said.
North Korea defied international warnings and launched a long-range rocket on Feb. 7, which they claimed was part of a peaceful space program.
The launch of the rocket followed North Korea's widely disputed claim last month that it had successfully tested a hydrogen bomb.
