Chavalit cancels media briefing after junta pressure

Former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh has cancelled a planned press conference to discuss the political situation in the country following mounting pressure from the junta.
Chavalit, who was previously with the Pheu Thai Party and is viewed as an ally of ex-leader Thaksin Shinawatra, had planned the press conference to take place at his home in Nonthaburi tomorrow morning.
A source said that Nonthaburi authorities were warned by senior figures in the National Council for Peace and Order of immediate job transfers if Chavalit’s press conference went ahead.
However, a source from the NCPO said yesterday that no order had been issued for Chavalit to cancel the event.
Chavalit recently held a press conference at his home in which he claimed that he had set up a group called the Third Force, which comprised millions of people who were trying to end the major conflicts affecting Thai society.
