Ex-Thai FA boss banned for five years by Fifa

Disgraced former Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi received a five-year ban with immediate effect from all football-related activities after the Fifa ethics committee found him guilty of misconduct on Tuesday.

Fifa launched the formal investigative proceedings against the 64-year-old Worawi in July last year based on reports that the Thai, who was the head of the FAT from 2007 until he was suspended temporarily in October pending the investigation, had been convicted of forgery by the Southern Bangkok Criminal Court.

After a year of investigation conducted by Dr Cornel Borbely, the chairman of the investigatory chamber of the ethics committee, the final report was then submitted to the adjudicatory chamber chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert.

Due to the fact that Worawi made alterations to the FAT Statutes without the approval of the FAT Congress, the adjudicatory chamber of the Fifa ethics committee found him guilty of forgery and falsification under article 17 of its code of ethics. In addition, he was also found guilty of violating article 41 involving obligation of the parties to collaborate.

As a sanction, the adjudicatory chamber has banned Worawi for five years from all football‑related activities (administrative, sports or any other) on a national and international level and imposed a fine of CHF 10,000.
