Rainmaking underway to tamp down haze in North

A rainmaking operation is being planned to help tackle the problem of haze in northern Thailand.

Surasee Kittimonthon, directorgeneral of the Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation Department, said artificial rainmaking projects had been undertaken to urgently help ease haze pollution in nine northern provinces: Lampang, Lamphun, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phrae, Nan, Tak, Phayao and Mae Hong Son.
Surasee said that the operation had begun on Friday in Phrae, Nan, Lamphun and Lampang.
He added that artificiallyinduced rain had resulted in a decline in particulate matter from critical to moderate levels in Chiang Mai, Lampang, Lamphun, Nan, Phrae, Phayao and Tak while the situation in Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son had yet to improve.
Surasee urged residents in affected areas to continue avoiding outdoor activities or wear face masks to protect themselves from the effects of haze.
