Alleged eaglewood smuggler arrested
An alleged eaglewood smuggler was arrested by Royal Thai Navy officers along with Forestry officials in Prachinburi province, while he was trying to cut the trees in the protected area.
The team led by Rear Admiral Uthai Thongdee from Royal Thai Navy and chief of Suan Pa Bang Kanun, Sorakrissana Singkham, arrested Assanai Sato in the National Reserved Forest, Suan Pa Bang Kanun, in Thalang on Thursday night. The team managed to capture him but his accomplice managed to escape.
After the arrest, the officers brought Assanai for investigation and searched his accommodation. They found his friend’s ID card. The officers waited for the man to come back but he never returned.
The team initially got a report that eaglewood smugglers were active in the protected forest and many trees had already been cut.
