Captain Ronnakorn Chalermsaenyakorn, director of operations at the airport, said 28 fallen Loy Krathong lanterns had been collected as of 5am Friday.
He credited the low number to the provincial administration’s decision to restrict lantern releases to just Thursday and Friday.
Last year 30 lanterns landed at the airport on just the first day and 108 were collected after three days.
Sent aloft in the thousands, they can cause problems for arriving and departing aircraft.
