According to Keeratisak Pukhaoluan, the governor of Krabi, officials decided to use the statues to promote the habit of wearing mask amid the Covid-19 outbreak; they also promoted Thai tradition by dressimg them up in traditional attire or Muay Thai equipment of the past.
In addition to using the statues to drive home the message to the people, there are also posters saying: "stay home, stop virus, save the nation" on the poles nearby.
