Somyot fills up key FAT posts

Football Association of Thailand’s newly-elected president Somyot Poompanmuang yesterday released a list of his executive board members.

The retired police chief, who became the 17th president of the association following a landslide victory on Thursday, is yet to be approved by the Sports Authority of Thailand. However, the 61-year-old has named the members of his administration, with Pisan Jundilok, a former candidate for the president’s post, taking the secretary general’s post.
Somyot also took on the role of the chairman of the refereeing committee, one of the priorities highlighted in his five-point manifesto, while Pisan accepted the dual role of chairman of the thirdtier Regional League.
Wittaya Laohakul, the first and only Thai player to ply his trade in Germany’s topflight league in the 80s, will oversee the development at grassroots level as the technical director. Adisak Benjasiriwan, who played a key role in the early success of Thai futsal, was appointed as the chairman of the futsal panel.
However, one key post was still left vacant, with Somyot yet to name the man who would replace Ongart Kohsinkha, who suffered a humiliating loss in Thursday’s vote as Somyot’s team made a clean sweep of 19 executive posts, as the Thai Premier League chairman.
