The FAT had passed a resolution earlier this week to rescind Siam Sport’s contract signed during the tenure of Somyot’s predecessor Worawi Makudi, saying it was unfair to the association. But, the FA’s new boss insisted the company still had the right to cover the domestic game.
“We decided to revoke the contract to bring about justice and fairness. But, we have no power to prohibit them from getting involved in any footballrelated activities. Nevertheless, they cannot broadcast or show the footage of the game because that rights belongs to TrueVisions.
“They, however, can cover the game, including displaying important events of the match just like any other media. We have prohibited them from broadcasting the game because we’re bound by the contract with TrueVisions,” he said.
The former national police chief also confirmed that TrueVisions’ multibillionbaht extension to its broadcasting deal, that was due to kick in next year, will be declared null and void. It was in accordance with the association’s resolution that any of the association’s existing contracts that has its length longer than one year would be valid until the end of the year, he said
“Since taking up the job, I want due process to be followed in everything and make sure that it is fair to every party. We’ll have representatives to oversee all these things. It’ll be transparent,” said Somyot.
