So how do they plan to achieve democracy under current circumstances – by having an election and restarting the same old cycle? This plan might have worked if the political parties had self-regulated by kicking out corrupt members, recruiting honest individuals and educating the rest about democracy. But they haven’t. Those who wrecked the previous attempts at democracy are still there.
So Pheu Thai and the Democrats are criticising the controlled approach as undemocratic, without coming up with anything better and despite their previous failed attempts. History does not lie: Neither party is democratically mature enough to achieve a sustainable democracy in Thailand. In short, they want to have everything their own way. This being the case, they have to be leash-walked to democracy by people who know better.
Remember: Democracy always develops from an undemocratic past through the actions of honest people. Neither Pheu Thai nor the Democrats have those people.
