Re: “Prayut spurns political parties’ opposition to draft charter”, Politics, April 11.
The prime minister says he doesn’t care if politicians opposed to the constitution draft boycott the next general election, reasoning that other parties would be keen to replace them.
Be that as it may, if our prime minister wants a constitution that eventually brings full democracy, he should take the lead by practising democratic governance – starting right now.
First, a public forum should be held for all to voice their opinions. People should have every right to say anything so long as it doesn’t constitute libel.
Second, people must be allowed to vote freely and without influence from the authorities.
Lastly, since the 2014 coup aimed to break the political deadlock, the military should return democracy to the country. |There should be no unwarranted delay.
This is the only way forward to peace and prosperity in our country.
