Samsung’s Culture Explorer 2.0 launched to bring back Bangkok’s glorious past

Samsung’s Culture Explorer 2.0 has been launched to bring Thais and foreign tourists back to the past to view Thailand’s glorious culture in Bangkok and along the Chao Phraya River.

The app, which has been recently released, make uses of the Augmented Reality (AR) to allow users to capture their photos or video clips and bring them back in time to become a part of Bangkok’s historical sites, especially those along the river.
With the AR function and the app, users can be anywhere but they can appear as a part of the historical sites under the theme of “Falling in Love with Bangkok Once More & Reviving Chao Phraya’s Old Memories”.
Thai Samsung said in a press statement that it encourages Generation-Y people to use the app to explore the best of Thailand from the past till present through Bangkok’s attractions and a cruise along the Chao Phraya River.
The Culture Explorer 2 has been upgraded from the initial Culture Explorer that has been downloaded over 60,000 times, said Varit Charanyanont, Senior Corporate Marketing Manager of Thai Samsung Electronics Company Limited.
“We have encouraged people to rediscover the precious past, to reconnect with people of all ages via culture and history, and also to remember their roots. It’s a way to nudge people into realizing and appreciating the value of their culture. Culture Explorer has been launched in several Southeast Asian countries including Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines in many angles of their own interesting,” Varit said. 
He said the upgrade version has AR functio, Time Travel VDO function and Nearby Notification function.
“This year, Samsung has upgraded its Culture Explorer 2.0. It deploys Augmented Reality (AR) in perfectly combining the past with the today’s world. Time Travel VDO function effectively puts its users in virtual historical incidents. 
“On top of this, its Nearby Notification function automatically informs its users when they come close to any interesting historical place. Culture Explorer allows users to enjoy the VDO and pictures of more than 47 historical places. People can retrieve any of the more than 500 items in its database, take a picture, edit it with various effects and show it off on social media,” Varit added. 
Samsung said the highlight of Culture Explorer 2.0 is its “Falling in Love with Bangkok Once More & Reviving Chao Phraya’s Old Memories” concept. 
Under this concept, users will be able to go back into the glorious past of Bangkok’s 12 historical districts. 
Featuring both street view and river view, these districts are: 1) Charoenkrung, 2) Rajdamnoen, 3) Yaowaraj, 4) Pathumwan, 5) Memorial Bridge Pier, 6) Tha Thien Pier 7) Tha Chang Pier, 8) Tha Phra Chan Pier, 9) Tha Phra Arthit Pier, 10) Tha Rot Fai Pier, 11) Tha Si Phraya Pier; and 12) Tha Rajawongse Pier. 
The National Archive of Thailand and various media organizations have given historical information and photos in support of the Culture Explorer, Samsung added.
