The third seed Pruchya, winner of the three circuits here in June, was leading the teenage rival 5-3 when rain suspended their match on Tuesday afternoon.
When play resumed this morning the former country’s No 1 player won the opening set 6-3 but then fell 1-4 behind. The national Davis Cup player then regrouped his concentration to rally back and surged ahead at 5-4 before wrapping up the set 7-6 (7-3).
At 3pm today, he will play the final showdown against southpaw Phassawit Burapharitta, the fourth seed who had already completed his match yesterday with an upset win over top seed Jirat Navasirisomboon 6-2 6-1. Despite having longer rest, Phassawit never underestimated the triple circuit champion.
“I was playing quite well to win my semi-final match. As for the match against Pruchya it will be tough. Although he just came back from knee injury, he is playing so well,” said Phassawit.
