With the absence of Pruchya, the 23-year-old Phassawit beat Chaleechan Tanasugarn 6-4 6-3 in the Sunday’s Circuit 5 final for his first championship in the ATT after five attempts. The left-hander had gone down to the arch rival 6-4 6-2 in the Circuit 4 title match.
Phassawit, however, was determined to prove that with or without the heavy favorite Pruchya he could reign supreme in this week.
“My goal is to win this sixth circuit. I want to redeem my pride after I lost to him in that final. I normally don’t lose to the same players often,” said the third seed who beat Patcharapol Kawin 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-5) in the first round.
With the national player Pruchya losing to no one in all four attempts, Phassawit was well aware of a haunting task against, as he claimed, one of the toughest Thai players at the moment.
“He is such a warrior who will fight until his last breathe. I have to come up with a game plan that will keep him off the comfort zone,” added the 2015 World University Games national player.
However the Chulalongkorn graduate must be well prepared physically wise amidst he high humid condition here at the resort town. Cramps remain one of his major obstacles in long tough matches and it almost stroke him after the Sunday’s showdown.
“I’m the kind of players who sweat so much since I was a child. Even I drink electrolyte drinks or try eating bananas, I still have cramps some times. I hope it won’t bother me this week.”
In the other first round matches, top seed Jirat Navasirisomboon beat Jatin Dahiya of India 7-5 6-0, second seed Pruchya beat Sutinan Tantaseraneewat 6-3 6-2, Chaleechan beat Nattan Benjasuwan 0-6 6-2 6-3 and Nathasith Kunsuwat beat Nawakarn Khunjan 6-4 6-3
