German Teenage Altmaier Defies Samurai to Reach Quarter-finals.

The up-and-coming German teenage Daniel Altmaier survived a tough challenge from Japanese Yuichi Ito to win their second round match 6-3 6-4 in the US$10,000 Cal-Comp & XYZ Printing ITF Men’s Futures 5 at True Arena Hua Hin on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old from Kemper who is seeded fourth this week with his current and career best at No 405 in the world dominated play with solid single-handed groundstrokes and all court game to book a quarter-final showdown with Min Hyeok Cho, one of the four South Koreans remaining in the tournament.

 

In the biggest upset Kazakh qualifier Denis Yevseyev knocked out top seed Sadio Doumbia of France 5-7 6-4 6-3. The 23-year-old world No 818 will take on Nam Hyun-Woo of South Korea today.

There was some bad news for Thai fans as Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul had to retire during a match with Lee Jea Moon of South Korea due to a back injury. Lee will face Adrian Andrzejczuk of Poland who advanced at the cause of a stomach upset by Hong Chung of South Korea.

Second seed Soon Woo Kwon, the fourth South Korean winner on Wednesday, beat countryman Noh Sang-woo 6-1 6-2 to set up a clash with Vietnamese Nam Hoang Ly, the highest ranked player in South East Asia at No 658.

In the doubles quarter-finals, Pruchya Isarow and Yuichi Ito of Japan beat Sanchai Ratiwatana and Jirat Navasirisomboon 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 10-5.
