The former world No 85 who falls to 169 this week was leading the 161st-ranked opponent 6-0 4-3 yesterday before rain suspended play, forcing organisers to postpone the match to Wednesday.
The 23-year-old however did not let the interruption break her momentum as she won the remaining two games to finish the match and reserve a spot in round two.
“Having a break like that could be good and bad. The good thing is I can rest and talk about the game plan with my coach but the bad thing is she can also do the same thing. I personally would love to finish it yesterday as I was having my momentum,” said Luksika who earned a spot in the maindraw through the qualifying competitions 12 months ago.
“However I was able to pick up what I left on Tuesday. Despite some hiccups I won two games in a row to pull it off. I’m happy I’m still in the tournament,” added the Thai No 1 player.
Luksika will wait the winner between third seed Ons Jabeur or Tunisia and Sofya Shuk of Russia in the second round. Both players have yet to finish their match which is suspended due to rain at press time.
“I’ve just started to feel good on grass over the past few years. I hope to carry on this momentum going into the next round.”
