More relevant than religious hypocrisy

As a follow-up to Ye Ole Pedant’s letter (August 21), I often hear people say morality is just a matter of opinion. If that’s true then there was no moral difference between Hitler and Gandhi since they both did what they believed was morally right.

I agree that we need a general definition that revolves around the view that we should do no harm and do unto others as we’d like done unto ourselves.
I think the reason some people are turned off to “morality” is that many religious hypocrites moralise about irrelevant puritanical nonsense such as the “evil” of non-marital sex (except when they do it!), cursing or even going to a party.(Yes. I once met a born-again Christian who said parties were a sin). But the morality I’m talking about involves human rights and animal rights. In others words I’m just saying: stop hurting others.
