The Tourism Authority of Thailand chose Chanthaburi and three other provinces for its project “Follow the King’s Philosophy towards Sustainable Tourism”.
The scheme has the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Tourism Authority service promotion director Patita Tantivechakul and Rayong office deputy director Kedsiree Somboonsin, along with Wisoot Tantinan, UNDP team leader for democratic governance and social advocacy, presided at the project’s opening ceremony.
“This is my pride,” Oat said. “I’m honoured that His Majesty the late King’s story is being represented at the Chanthaboon Waterfront Community, the project’s first destination.
“This community has maintained its identity and culture in its buildings and the way traditional careers are inherited by the younger generations. The way of life of the people of Chanthaburi follows the late King’s philosophy for a sufficiency economy.
“These people will always appreciate the late King’s help in preventing flooding by building the Bhakdi Rambhai Canal.”
Oat will also visit the Ban Pong-Huai Lan Community in Chiang Mai, the Nong Yai Development Project Community in Chumphon and the Ban Nongsan Community in Sakon Nakhon.
Photos to be taken on all four trips are to be presented in an exhibition at the Emporium from October 4 to 8.
