Much ado about nothing?

I can’t believe this. Old George HW Bush is 93 years old. He’s suffering from something like Parkinson’s disease and possibly dementia. He pats a young woman on the bum. According to CNN, she is now screaming “Sexual assault!” so he has to issue a grovelling public apology. Is there no sense of proportion left in our Crazy New World?
That is not sexual assault, madame. That is just patting you on the bum. Admittedly, it falls into the category of what the politically correct lunatics call inappropriate behaviour. Admittedly, it is extremely uncool. But to call it sexual assault (why not “attempted rape”?) is just a tad excessive. It makes you a prime candidate for Anderson Cooper’s Ridiculist.
If this lady had even the rudiments of a sense of humour, having felt the ex-presidential paw patting her on the bum, she would have turned around, smiled, held out her hand, and said: “That’ll cost you ten dollars, Mr Ex-president, sir, and if you try it again, it’ll cost you twenty. Go ahead, make my day, you old perv.”
Such a response would have put the incident in its proper perspective. If old George HW ever patted my bum, I would not scream “Homosexual assault!” I would merely turn around, smile, salute, and say: “Thank you for your service to our country, Mr Ex-president, sir. You’ve made my day, you old perv.”
