Gentle persuasion is wiser than brute force

Re: “Time to take kid gloves off in this dirty food fight”, Have Your Say, November 30.

I am an occasional vegetarian. I relapse and lose my “veginity” every now and then. But, Eric, I think you are intimidating people to quit eating meat.
Perhaps you could be more persuasive, like Paul McCartney, who said: “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.” Or George Bernard Shaw, who said: “Animals are my friends and I don’t eat my friends.”
Statements like those move me; they make me think hard about quitting eating meat for good. But then I say to myself, “So you’re letting Eric bully you … no way!”
Eric, put your kid gloves back on. You are not going to convince people by calling them stupid, or meatheads, or thick-skulled. Pathos, Eric, pathos.
