A right to eat meat

Re: “By eating animals we also devour human rights”, Have Your Say, December 8.

I am rather shocked at Eric Bahrt’s somewhat naive implication that there is a link between livestock and global warming and somehow this is a reason to become a vegetarian. Further, he claims that 80 per cent of our corn and 95 per cent of our oats are fed to livestock, thereby contributing possibly
to massive starvation. If that is true, then we humans must
contribute even more heavily to global warming and massive starvation because we impact global warming and consume fruits and vegetables much more than livestock. So what should we do? Cull the human race?
Eric, your logic is a bit self -serving. We have just as much a right to eat meat in peace without being annoyed by those who choose to practise another form of diet. It’s not that we do not respect your right to eat like livestock. It is just that you can’t shove your rights in other people’s faces and if they don’t agree with you, you throw a temper tantrum and try to make up some erroneous arguments to support your point.
