Most people are arrested only because they have they have no influence, or because they didn’t have enough money on them, or because there is a political reason, as with all detentions under the junta.
Likewise, people are arrested on trumped-up charges, such as drugs planted on them in hopes of receiving a bribe, or for speaking out, or for being out of the loop, which is more common for tourists, who don’t have a clue about local customs. In any such situation, the criminal charge rarely reflects reality – an excuse to detain a specific individual.
