How does Thailand compare to the UK on drink driving?

Re: “Almost 200,000 drivers arrested for drink driving in five days of Songkran holidays” Thai PBS, and “Over 10,000 vehicles seized from drunk drivers so far this Songkran”, The Nation, April 16.
That is a totally mad number in just five days. Official figures for Britain show that England and Wales get a total 85,000 convictions for drink-driving per year! (Drink Driving.org)

Those numbers are not real. They would mean upwards of a half million are driving drunk... Wait...

Just think, if there were police checkpoints in rural areas as well, then these numbers would probably quadruple.

200,000 in 5 days arrested for drunk driving. That would suggest to me that they are only 10% or so of the real problem, as the others were either not caught or they paid off police
That is one frightening statistic.
