JIC urges Thais to read white paper on Cambodia border

Thailand’s Joint Information Center (JIC) on the Thailand-Cambodia Situation has urged the public to read and responsibly share a white paper compiling facts, historical evidence and international law relating to the border dispute, arguing that verified information should take precedence over emotion and unsubstantiated claims.
Air Chief Marshal Prapas Sornchaidee, assistant commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Air Force and director of the JIC, made the appeal on August 3 as he addressed what the centre described as an information contest surrounding the Thai-Cambodian border situation.
ACM Prapas said the dispute was no longer confined to military developments along the border because information presented to the international community had become another important dimension.
He argued that Thailand’s response should not seek to stir public emotion but should instead establish its position through facts, evidence and reason.
White paper brings evidence into one reference
The JIC prepared the white paper to consolidate information on the Thai-Cambodian border situation in one document.
It includes factual accounts, a chronology of events, historical evidence and relevant principles of international law. The centre said the material was intended to provide information that can be checked by the public, academics, journalists and members of the international community.
ACM Prapas urged people not to share material simply because they encounter it on social media.
“At a time when information can travel faster than the truth, accurate information is essential,” he said, urging people to read, understand and share material grounded in verifiable facts.
JIC stresses international law and agreed mechanisms
The JIC director said Thailand continued to act on the basis of international law, respect for state sovereignty and mechanisms agreed between Thailand and Cambodia.
He said establishing the facts required information, evidence and reason rather than relying on feelings or assertions made by either side.
ACM Prapas encouraged Thai people to read the white paper in full and, if they considered the information useful, share it responsibly to help build a clearer understanding of the border situation both domestically and internationally.
He added that fact-based communication could contribute to protecting Thailand’s interests and called on the public to base discussion of the border issue on evidence that could be checked rather than rumours or emotionally driven material.
