Four Thai regions face heavy rain and flash-flood risk

Monsoon conditions will bring heavy rain to four regions, with upper Andaman waves above three metres and small boats advised to remain ashore

Heavy rain is forecast in parts of northern, upper northeastern, eastern and southern Thailand on August 17, with residents warned of flash floods, forest run-off and river overflows.

The Thai Meteorological Department’s 24-hour forecast said isolated heavy rain would persist in the North, upper Northeast, East and the South’s west coast.

The conditions are being driven by a monsoon trough extending across Myanmar, upper northern Thailand and upper Laos into a low-pressure cell over upper Vietnam. A rather strong south-westerly monsoon is also prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

Four Thai regions face heavy rain and flash-flood risk

Winds and waves in the upper Andaman Sea will remain rather strong, with waves of two to three metres and above three metres during thunderstorms.

Vessels operating in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should proceed with caution and avoid areas affected by thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore.
