First look at Saraburi high-speed rail station, gateway to the Northeast

Plans for Saraburi high-speed rail station have been unveiled as construction continues on the first phase of the Thai–Chinese high-speed rail project between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima.

The 250.77-kilometre route has reached 55.978% overall construction progress. The Transport Ministry is accelerating work with the aim of completing the project and opening services in 2031.

The railway is intended to improve passenger travel and freight transport while forming part of a wider economic corridor linking Thailand, Laos and China.

Saraburi–Kaeng Khoi contract reaches 73.25%

Contract 4-7, covering the 12.99km Saraburi–Kaeng Khoi section and including Saraburi station, has reached 73.25% completion.

Construction of elevated structures and other railway components is continuing, with precast segment installation 86% complete, balance-beam construction at 33% and switch-beam construction at 68%.

Saraburi station is expected to serve as a “gateway to the Northeast”. Although Saraburi is geographically located in central Thailand, the province is an important transport link to the northeastern region.

The station is therefore expected to become a major interchange and a new landmark for passengers travelling between regions.

Four-level elevated station

The high-speed rail station is being constructed in Takut subdistrict of Mueang Saraburi district as a four-level elevated building.

The first level will contain the station entrance and platforms for long-distance trains. The second level will house ticketing facilities for high-speed and long-distance services, as well as passenger interchange areas.

The third level will provide passenger waiting areas, while the fourth will contain the high-speed rail platforms.

The station will have two platforms, each measuring 450 metres in length, and four railway tracks. Construction of the station itself has reached 29.30%, compared with scheduled progress of 47.22%.

Authorities are seeking to accelerate construction so the station is ready to accommodate high-speed rail services when the Bangkok–Nakhon Ratchasima route opens.
