TOKYO - Japan's benchmark stock index closed above 20,000 on Friday, chalking up its best finish in nearly two years.

TOKYO - Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei 225 index on Friday topped the psychologically important 20,000 mark for the first time in a year and half after a batch of mostly strong US economic data pushed Wall Street to a record close.
