NEC Corporation has developed five new solutions for strengthening its business relating to the Internet of Things (IoT) and says it will release them gradually. In addition, NEC will increase the number of core personnel engaging in the building of IoT-related systems from the current level of around 100 to nearly 500 by 2020.
Takaaki Shimizu, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said that in the coming IoT era, the extra value of data found in the digital world would be incorporated swiftly into real society, industry and life.
NEC will capitalise on its extensive track record and its leading technologies in the areas of software-defined networking (SDN), big data, cloud and security in order to construct flexible and robust IoT systems.
In addition to NEC’s industrial IoT for the manufacturing sector, the Japanese multinational says it will work to broaden its line-up of solutions tailored to a broad array of industries and business types.
The new solutions recently developed include a landslide-prediction solution for governments; a solution to forecast water demand for local governments and water-utility operators; one to forecast electric-power demand for power producers and suppliers; an image- and weight-based goods-inspection solution for distributors; and a “VIP detection solution” for retailers and the service industry.
Air Force to use IFS apps for jet-engine upkeep
IFS, a global enterprise-applications company, has disclosed that the Directorate of Aeronautical Engineering (DAE), Royal Thai Air Force, has chosen to deploy IFS Applications to manage the engine maintenance of its fleet of 25 F-5E/F fighter planes.
The DAE chose IFS Applications to support its ongoing maintenance processes and to ensure availability of the aircraft at all times.
The local consultancy support that IFS is able to provide also played a key role in the Air Force’s decision, the company said.
Sridharan Arumugam, IFS vice president for Southeast Asia, said the Sweden-based company had seen double-digit growth in Thailand for the past five or six years, and this was a key region for its future growth.
IFS expects the Air Force to go live with the first phase of implementation at its Engine Maintenance Division at Don Mueang Air Force Base in January. The solution will then be rolled out to Wing 21 in Ubon Ratchathani Royal Thai Air Force base, which is the home of F-5E/F fighter planes.
