Thammasat swings open new workshop for auto engineering

THE NEWLY opened automotive-engineering building at the College of Innovation on Thammasat University's Pattaya Campus will be an international-standard education centre to strengthen Thailand as a hub of automotive manufacture with advanced technology an

With Bt68 million in financial support from Siam Motors Group and Bangkok Bank, the college inaugurated the Siam Motors Group Workshop as a modern automotive-engineering centre last month with total space of 3,000 square metres. The workshop was developed for the college’s English-language automotive engineering programme.
Bangkok Bank supported the construction of two student dormitories with a total of 48 rooms.
They are equipped with Wi-Fi access.
Pornthep said that in addition to the building, Siam Motors contributed equipment, multipurpose vehicles, and a 1-tonne pickup truck for the workshop. Other companies in automotive-related industries such as Siam Daikin Sales, Siam Music Yamaha, Bosch Automotive (Thailand) and auto-parts manufacturers are also supporting the automotive engineering programme.
Meanwhile, Thammasat University has formed collaborations with internationally renowned universities to enhance the quality of learning. In the future, it plans to create a new study centre in this area.
Pornthep said Siam Motors Group also grants scholarships for the first three years of the four-year programme, while the training department at Siam Motors in Japan will provide professionals to support the programme.
In 1987, Siam Motors Group donated about 565 rai (90.4 hectares) on Chon Buri-Rayong Road in Bang Lamung, Pattaya, to Thammasat University for the creation of a new campus in the Eastern region. The university developed the College of Innovation in 1995 with the goal of being a centre for research and development, academic service, and international training and seminars.
All classes are conducted in English. Students in this programme will be the first group of undergraduates enjoying the new facilities and state-of-the-art equipment at the Pattaya Campus.
