Chamber sees huge potential to boost Thai exports to China

The Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (TCCC) plans to tap opportunities to boost Thai exports to China to US$17 billion.

The president of the chamber, Narongsak Puttapornmongkol, said that China had been Thailand's No. 1 trading partner for 11 years. In 2022, China was Thailand's top import source and the second-largest export market. In the first nine months of this year, total bilateral trade amounted to $78.92 billion.

Thailand exported goods worth $26.33 billion to China and imported goods valued at $52.58 billion during this period.

Thailand is China's 14th largest import source and export market.

Recently, the chamber participated in the 6th China International Import Expo, a major annual event in China. The expo aimed to open opportunities for various countries to export their products to the Chinese market, which boasts a population of 1.4 billion and a middle-income group of over 400 million people.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang recently said that China was ready to open up its economy and aimed to import goods worth $17 trillion from around the world in the next five years. This presents a significant opportunity for Thai exports to enter the Chinese market, the chamber said.
