The folks who bottle Heineken beer are offering chances to win trips to New York, Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, and all you have to do is pile up some “mileage” in online games.
The “Open Your City, Open Your World” campaign has images of those cities printed on the labels of small bottles of Heineken and – as an exclusive treat for fans in Bangkok – there’s a limited edition series depicting the City of Angels as well.
The whole idea, says Pattapanee Ekahitanond, Heineken’s marketing manager at TAP Trading, is “to always inspire people, encouraging them to open their world and discover new experiences”.
The “Open Your City” campaign urges “young drinkers to take bold steps away from old conventions and go in search of new inspirations in their own cities”.
The local press was recently taken on a “mystery tour” all over Bangkok.
Among the stops were restaurants of varying styles and culinary flair, including the American vintage-style restaurant Chomp on Sam Sen Road and the Japanese industrial-style eatery Merlin Cafe on Soi Ari. There was hip street food served from an American food truck at Summer Street on Ari Soi 2 and home-cooked French food at Le Bouchon on Patpong Soi 2.
The evening ended with a string of small but hip parties with Bangkok’s art and music scene movers and shakers at the Adler Subhashok Gallery, the Goja Gallery Cafe and the Uncle Cocktail Bar & Lounge.
Getting a shot at the foreign trips on offer requires entering contests. At the end of the month four players will win one of the 72-hour overseas jaunts and can take along a companion.
The game 360 Explorer involves spotting specific items hidden in a 360-degree image of Bangkok on the Facebook app “Heineken Open Your City”. Or you can try “Snap Your City, Create Your Story”, in which pictures of you carrying a Heineken Cities Edition Bottle around town are uploaded to #openyourcity on Instagram.
