The incident occurred at 06:44 AM on February 27, 2026, in the Chang Raye area, Kabcheang District, Surin Province, where a soldier was seriously injured while working in an area under their control.
Preliminary investigations at the scene revealed that the mine was deeply buried with leaves covering it, making it difficult to detect. It was not a newly placed mine. The soldier was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for urgent treatment, and his condition is currently being closely monitored.
Surin Hospital Director Provides Update on Soldier's Condition, Vital Signs Stable
The Director of Surin Hospital has provided an update on the condition of Private Detchsak Tri-kham.
At 08:46 AM, Private Detchsak was transferred by helicopter from Kabcheang Hospital to Surin Hospital, with a medical team assessing his treatment options. Dr. Chawamai Suebnukarn, Director of Surin Hospital, reported that after evaluating the injuries, the soldier’s right leg had been severed below the knee. He needed immediate surgery. Following initial treatment, his vital signs were stable, and he was responsive and in good spirits. The team proceeded with wound cleaning before the surgery and will focus on his left leg, which was injured by shrapnel.
Dr. Chawamai further stated that the medical team is following standard procedures for treatment and ensuring the soldier receives the best care. The soldier is expected to undergo 2-3 surgeries to ensure clean and safe wound treatment and prevent further complications from the shrapnel injuries on his left leg. He expressed confidence that the hospital will provide the best care for the soldier’s recovery.
