World No 11 Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk fought off a game point to beat Hu Yun of Hong Kong 21-17 23-21 to advance to the QUE Singapore Open on Thursday.
The Thai No 1 was down at 20-21 in the second game but put up a gutsy fight to escape from the blink of defeat with superb play to beat the world No 15 after 47 minutes. He has extended his win-loss record over Hu to 3-1.
He will play a winner between Sai Praneeth B. of India and Qiao Bin of China in the Friday’s quarter-finals.
