
Nigel Pike said, “.... Anand [Panyarachun] who is widely considered the best prime minister Thailand ever had, was never democratically elected”.
Never been elected, true, but I wish Pike had used active voice to state clearly who considered Anand the best PM. I think it depends on whom you ask. Surely, if you asked the Panyarachun clan, yes, he was the best.
To me, only three Thai prime ministers are worth being remembered: Prem Tinsulanonda who proved that a man could be PM for life; Abhisit Vejjajiva who proved that anybody could be PM; and Prayut Chan-o-cha who proved that Thailand doesn’t need a PM at all.
